代表挨拶

A message of greeting from Saint-Gobain K.K. Representative Director Francis Cholley.

Saint-Gobain in Japan

Saint-Gobain has been at the forefront of industrial innovation for over 350 years, through some of the most dramatic periods of change and development in world history. And now, as the Asia-Pacific area becomes an increasingly influential part of the global economy, Saint-Gobain in Japan is growing and consolidating its position as a hub of Saint-Gobain's presence in this dynamic region.

Our approach to the Japanese market is to identify areas that combine clear growth potential with the opportunity to leverage our design and technical strengths. One example of this is the market for order-made glass. In recent years greater emphasis has been placed on the outward appearance of buildings in Japan, and Saint-Gobain has been chosen to supply unique product configurations for landmark commercial premises such as the Dentsu and Prada buildings in Tokyo and the Louis Vuitton building in Osaka.

We are also engaged in successful joint ventures with local Japanese companies, some of which have been established for more than 40 years. In fields as diverse as glass, refractories, and abrasives, we have been combining the best of each contributing company's marketing, technical, and design abilities. We expect to form more of these ventures in Japan, at the same time as we develop the R&D cooperation and manufacturing plants that underline our commitment to the Japanese market in line with our worldwide strategy to be the reference for sustainable Habitat.

I believe that an important part of our future success will rely on our strong presence in Japan, the continuity of our strategy, but with the relevant adaptation to a new reality, and the high level of quality and commitment of our teams. Under the leadership of Pierre-Andre de Chalendar, Chairman & CEO of Saint-Gobain Group, I am proud to take part in the development of our Saint-Gobain activities in Japan.
